Protocol for NoHow project (Horizon 2020) published in JMIR
The research protocol article for the NoHow project, first-authored by Marta Marques, has been published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research. JMIR the leading digital health journal in quality / visibility (IF 5.43), ranking Q1 in the medical informatics category. Pedro Teixeira and the new line of research from the Self-regulation group - psychedelics and health behaviour change - were featured in two recent articles in the popular press. Pedro Teixeira featured in video interview "Get to know CIPER senior researcher"
On Wednesday 24th the CIPER series "Get to know CIPER senior researcher" featured Pedro Teixeira. The session was conducted as an interview format moderated by two researchers from the Self Regulation research group, Laura Carvalho and Jorge Encantado. The main topics were Pedro Teixeira's academic career, research interests and main achievements, providing relevant insights for early career and future researchers. FMH-CIPER was present at Insight: Psychedelic Research & Therapy
With a lecture named “Can Psychedelics Improve Diet, Exercise, Meditation, and Weight Control?”, Pedro Teixeira was a presenter at the Insight 2021 conference in Berlin, organised by the MIND Foundation. This talk was based on the review article, “Psychedelics and health behaviour change”, published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology and recently covered by Lucid News.
Jorge Encantado completed his PhD in Health Psychology
Jorge Encantado, researcher at the PANO-SR Research Group, successfully defended his doctoral dissertation titled "Digital Health for Weight loss Maintenance" on July 8th at ISPA - Instituto Universitário.
Pedro Teixeira new Research Director at the Synthesis Institute
Pedro Teixeira has been hired as Director of Research at the Synthesis Institute (partial time position) to coordinate all research projects and activities, in collaboration with leading research organizations worldwide. The Synthesis Institute is a pioneering organization in the field of psychedelics, providing legal, medically-supervised experiential retreats; practitioner training programs; and science outreach and dissemination activities.
Expert Consensus Article on Self-Determination Theory Techniques Published in Motivation Science
The article "Classification of Techniques Used in Self-Determination Theory-Based Interventions in Health Contexts: An Expert Consensus Study" has been published in APA's Motivation Science. Involving a large number of experts in self-determination theory (SDT), it presents the first consensus-based set of motivation and behavior change techniques based on SDT. It focuses on health contexts and behaviors, such as physical activity and eating.
Development of digital tools to facilitate PA promotion in primary health care published in International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health
Marlene N Silva, Catarina Silva and Pedro Teixeira from PANO-SR team authored a scientific article on the development and implementation of three digital tools to facilitate PA promotion in primary health care (PHC): 1) a PA brief assessment tool incorporated in the electronic health record platform “SClínico Cuidados de Saúde Primários“; 2) a brief counselling tool developed in the software “PEM—Prescrição Eletrónica Médica” (electronic medical prescription); and 3) a “Physical Activity Card” incorporated in an official NHS smartphone app called “MySNS Carteira”. These tools, developed according to best-practices and state of the art behavioural science, represent key actions to promote PA among Portuguese citizens using PHC as a priority setting.
Marta Marques a co-author in innovative paper on techniques to self-manage motivation and behaviour
Marta Marques, PANO researcher, collaborated in the development of the compendium of self-enactable techniques to change and self-manage motivation and behaviour. The paper was co-authored with Kegan Knittle, Martin Hagger and Nelli Hankonen among others. The authors did scoping reviews of literature and used taxonomies to bring together 123 techniques, each of which is labelled, defined and presented with instructive examples to facilitate self-enactment. Catarina Paixão completed her master degree in Public Health
Catarina Paixão, research assistant at the PANO-SR Research Group, successfully defended (18 val.) her master thesis at the National School of Public Health, NOVA University of Lisbon. Her research work consisted in a systematic review about the weight control registries, more specifically by identifying the characteristics of weight control registries, key sociodemographic, cognitive and behavioural characteristics of successful weight loss maintainers, as well as correlates of weight loss maintenance, providing evidence-based clues for future public health and obesity prevention and treatment initiatives. Congratulations, Catarina!
Sofia Franco completed her master degree in Exercise and Health
Sofia Franco, research assistant at the PANO-SR Research Group, successfully defended (18 val.) her master thesis at the Faculty of Human Kinetics, University of Lisbon. Her research work, devoted to the development of a tool to assess good practices in PA promotion community programs, was developed in close collaboration with the Portuguese National Program for the Promotion of Physical Activity (National Health Directorate). Congratulations, Sofia!
PANO Researchers author chapter in new APA's Handbook of Exercise Psychology
Pedro Teixeira and Eliana Carraça published the chapter entitled "Internal and external predictors of engaging in and adhering to physical activity" co-authored with Joreintje D. Mackenbach, in the American Psychology Association's Handbook of Sport and Exercise Psychology. The authors' manuscript version can be found in the attachment link.

NoHoW Consortium Meets in Aarhus
The NoHoW team met September 17-18 in Aarhus, Denmark to share recent updates on the NoHoW Toolkit and trial results. Colleagues involved in each phase of the project shared the most recent developments in these areas and project publications were also discussed. Initial NoHoW project results are now available to the team, stay tuned for results!

New national campaign for PA promotion: follow the whistle!
PANO Research team at 18th ISBNPA Annual Meeting in Prague (4-7 June)
PANO research group was represented at the 18th ISBNPA Annual Meeting that took place at beautiful city of Prague, from June 4th to 7th. Presentations were diverse in scope of research: a systematic review of psychological correlates of recreational running (Hugo Pereira), a systematic review of the existing weight control registries in europe (Inês Santos), the use of newly developed digital tools for physical activity promotion in the portuguese national health system (Catarina Silva), a discriminant analysis of psychological variables among weight losers from the NoHoW Trial (Jorge Encantado), the framework for new ontologies in behavioural science (Marta Marques), and also the perceptions and behaviours of oncologists regarding physical activity promotion (António Palmeira and Bruno Rodrigues).
Marta Marques was also recognized by ISBNPA with the first ever “One to Watch” award!
PANO at the 7th Self-Determination Theory Conference
Between May 21-24, PANO researchers participated in the 7th Self-Determination Theory Conference in Egmond aan Zee, Netherlands. Taking place only once every 3 years, it is an important event to network with other researchers and experts on this theory.

EuroFIT "Tasting Session" with Sweetfootball participants
On May 10 a further "tasting session" of EuroFIT took place. This time the session was presented to a group of participants with diabetes that are integrated into the Sweetfootball follow-up program.
The session was held in a positive environment with high interaction and a good learning climate.
