Between May 28-31, the 21st European Congress on Obesity took place in Sofia, Bulgaria. Eliana Carraça and Inês Santos presented two free communications (posters) "I eat better when physically active: The mediating role of autonomous regulations towards eating" and "Three-year weight management in overweight women: A signal detection analysis of behavioral and psychological predictors" respectively. Pedro Teixeira at the 28th International Congress of Applied Psychology
From 8-13 of July, the 28th International Congress of Applied Psychology was held in Paris. Together with Claudio Nigg, Heather Patrick and Sonia Lippke, Pedro Teixeira participated in a symposium titled “A critical examination of theory application in health behavior change research”, with a talk named “Testing the usefulness of self-determination theory for changing physical activity and nutrition behaviors”. Professor David Markland at FMH
Professor David Markland from Bangor University, Wales (profile HERE) presented a doctoral seminar at FMH titled “Moderation and moderated mediation in biomedicine and social sciences: Advanced methods and applications”, on July 16th. The seminar focused on moderation and moderated mediation analysis in research studies as well as practical applications of the procedures in biomedicine and social sciences.
Introduction to Motivational Interviewing
On July 18th, the CIPER (FMH-UL) in collaboration with ISPA University Institute, organized a workshop titled “Introduction to Motivational Interviewing”. The workshop was facilitated by Ken Resnicow, a Professor of Health Behavior and Health Education at the School of Public Health, University of Michigan, USA. More on Prof. Resnicow’s work HERE.
PANO at the 28th European Health Psychology Conference
PANO was represented at the 28th European Health Psychology Conference in Innsbruck (August 26-30). Marta Marques participated in the pre-conference Sinergy Expert Meeting on "Implementation Intention and Action Planning Interventions in Health Psychology". The aim of this meeting was to stimulate discussion and debate of the evidence on planning interventions in health behavior, as well as develop a consensus on the most effective means to implement and evaluate planning interventions. Marta Marques also presented a free communication tittled "An updated systematic review and meta-analysis of physical activity based interventions for chronic fatigue". EuroFIT meeting
On behalf of EuroFIT project, Pedro Teixeira and Hugo Pereira, together with several representatives of European football clubs/foundations (FC Porto, SL Benfica, Sporting CP, Manchester City, Arsenal, PSV Eindhoven, among others), participated in a meeting in London, on September 22. The aim of the meeting was to do an overview of the project and prepare the involvement of the 15 clubs. More information about EuroFIT HERE.
PANO at the 18th Portuguese Congress on Obesity
The PANO Research Group was represented at the 18th Portuguese Congress on Obesity (SPEO) in Aveiro, Portugal (October 24-26). Eliana Carraça was invited to present a talk entitled "Is the evaluation of a patient's readiness to change important to help them losing weight?", as part of a Symposium on "Myths & Facts" in the context of weight management. The aim of this meeting was to stimulate discussion and debate of the available evidence on pretreatment psychosocial predictors of successful weight control, reflecting upon its implications to the assessment and design of future interventions in the context of behavioral weight management. The European Health Psychologist
Marta Marques co-edited a special issue of The European Health Psychologist entitled "Behavior change in practice: Hands-on guides for research and intervention development". The issue includes an article on "Testing theory in practice: The example of self-determination theory-based interventions" authored by Marlene Silva, Marta Marques and Pedro Teixeira.
EuroFIT plenary consortium meeting
Marlene Silva and Jennifer LaGuardia participated in the 2nd EuroFIT plenary consortium meeting, in Dublin (Nov 10-11). They reported on the recent feasibility study implemented in the Portuguese clubs and contributed to the general discussion, especially on the design of the upcoming intervention protocol, to be implemented in the 15 European clubs involved.
