Between April 8-11th, the 5th International Congress on Physical Activity and Public Health took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. On behalf of ISBNPA, Pedro Teixeira participated in a symposium with a presentation titled "Back to Basics in Health Behavior Change: Determinants and Sucessful Interventions Across the Lifespan". The PANO research group was represented at the 35th Annual Meeting of the Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM), between April 23-26th, in Philadelphia. Pedro Teixeira participated in the keynote debate titled "Promoting Health Behavior Change: Behavioral Economics Meets Self-Determination" (Kevin Volpp was the opponent, see more HERE); and Marlene Silva presented a free communication (poster) titled "The bright and dark sides of motivation: mediators of controlling vs. autonomy-supportive practices in exercise settings". On May 10, at Lusófona University, Pedro Teixeira gave an invited lecture on "Weight Self-Regulation at Financial Benefits Age", on the sequence of the keynote debate of the 35th Annual Meeting of the Society of Behavioral Medicine.

Between May 21-24, PANO researchers participated in the 13th Annual Meeting of the International Society for Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity in San Diego, California. More information about the event HERE.

On May 22-23th, the XIII Congress of Nutrition and Food (Portuguese Nutritionists Association) took place in Porto. Marlene Silva participated in a symposium with a presentation titled "What to feed? Between May 28-31, the 21st European Congress on Obesity took place in Sofia, Bulgaria. Eliana Carraça and Inês Santos presented two free communications (posters) "I eat better when physically active: The mediating role of autonomous regulations towards eating" and "Three-year weight management in overweight women: A signal detection analysis of behavioral and psychological predictors" respectively. From 8-13 of July, the 28th International Congress of Applied Psychology was held in Paris. Together with Claudio Nigg, Heather Patrick and Sonia Lippke, Pedro Teixeira participated in a symposium titled “A critical examination of theory application in health behavior change research”, with a talk named “Testing the usefulness of self-determination theory for changing physical activity and nutrition behaviors”. Professor David Markland at FMH

Professor David Markland from Bangor University, Wales (profile HERE) presented a doctoral seminar at FMH titled “Moderation and moderated mediation in biomedicine and social sciences: Advanced methods and applications”, on July 16th. The seminar focused on moderation and moderated mediation analysis in research studies as well as practical applications of the procedures in biomedicine and social sciences.

On July 18th, the CIPER (FMH-UL) in collaboration with ISPA University Institute, organized a workshop titled “Introduction to Motivational Interviewing”. The workshop was facilitated by Ken Resnicow, a Professor of Health Behavior and Health Education at the School of Public Health, University of Michigan, USA. More on Prof. Resnicow’s work HERE
